Facebook has promised to fix a privacy breach after claims the website was tracking users across the internet.

INTERNET powerhouses, including Google, have agreed to support a "do not track" button to be embedded in most web browsers.

The move will be announced as part of President Obama's call for US congress to pass a "privacy bill of rights", The Wall Street Journal reports.

"EU court finds social networks can't be forced to impose filters"

    Piracy
Social networking websites have been told they can't be forced to install filters. Picture: File photo

SOCIAL networking websites cannot be forced to install filters preventing users from illegally sharing music and videos protected by copyright, the European Union's top court says.

The EU Court of Justice ruled that such an obligation to monitor content would go against EU rules that ensure a "fair balance" between protecting copyright and defending personal data and the freedom to conduct business.

"The owner of an online social network cannot be obliged to install a general filtering system, covering all its users, in order to prevent the unlawful use of musical and audio-visual work," the court said in a statement.

"FM headed panel to finalise ONGC stake sale roadmap tomorrow"

A ministerial panel will meet on Monday to decide on the roadmap for auction of 5% government stake in oil major ONGC that will help raise about Rs 12,000 crore. The Empowered Group of Ministers (EoM) on ONGC disinvestment is scheduled to meet on Monday to decide on the timeline and pricing issues, an official said.

The panel, headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to decide on the base or reserve price for the auction of government stake in ONGC.

A five% share sale in ONGC is likely to fetch the central exchequer around Rs 12,000 crore. Shares of ONGC were last trading at Rs 284.25 on the BSE.

Earlier this month, the EGoM had decided to auction the government stake in ONGC.

The ONGC stake sale would help the government move towards its ambitious target of Rs 40,000 crore disinvestment for the

"Kingfisher's nosedive poses dilemma for government"

As Kingfisher Airlines careens toward collapse, the government finds itself between a rock and a hard place. The government, already weakened by a string of corruption scandals over the past year, will face further political heat if it tries to rescue a money-losing private carrier - especially one owned by a flamboyant liquor baron.

If it lets Vijay Mallya's airline fail, however, the government will hurt state-run banks, which own about a fifth of Kingfisher's shares and three-quarters of its $1.3 billion debt.

Kingfisher is struggling with fewer flights and pilots, staff demoralised by unpaid salaries, and outstanding dues to aircraft lessors, oil companies, airports and tax authorities.

It needs at least $400 million quickly to keep flying, figures Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), a consultancy . Mallya's plans to raise funds through a share sale have been stalled and he has been lobbying the government to get state-run banks to lend more.

But a senior executive at State Bank of India (SBI) , the lead lender to

"Spirit of cricket" debate rises again with "India" at centre

The spirit of cricket debate was reignited once again at the ongoing ODI tri-series and it was India at the centre of it all yet again.

The action unfolded in the 24th over of the crucial India-Australia league match which Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men had to win to stay afloat in the series.

At 119 for four, Australia were rather precariously poised when wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade took off for a single off R Ashwin's final delivery of the over.

Non-striker David Hussey answered his partner's call but as he

CB Series: Match 10 Australia vs India - Highlights

Australia v India, CB Series, Sydney
Australia in final after 87-run win
Australia are in the final, but they will know there's plenty of work to do before those games. Their batting in the last ten overs was disastrous today, and a better team would have made them pay for it.
    Australia 252/9 (50 ov)
    India 165 (39.3 ov)

    Duration: "5 minutes"

Belong to Cricket: "CB Series Match 10 India vs Australia "

Watson: "Very nice start as a captain, it all worked out very well. It helped that wickets fell at appropriate times. I kept trying to get the bowlers and their ends right. I felt good and had a lot of fun today. [On the David Hussey issue] In the end it looked like David Hussey was looking to protect himself. I have full faith in Taufel and Bowden.. [I like the captaincy], but will like to see Clarke back."

Warner is Man of the Match: "I needed some runs under the belt and put my head down today. A bit of a lazy shot towards the end, a brain explosion ... The key for me is that if I get my defence right, the big shots come off."

Dhoni: "Definitely not a good night. We got off to a decent start, after that we used the part-timers when Pathan got injured. We were a bit confused, but overall we were happy with the first half. But the second innings, we left too many overs for Nos. 7,8 and 9. We have not performed to potential in these ODIs, it was an ideal opportunity for the youngsters. I am sure they have learned a lot. We need to bat well. Unfortunately we lost all the tosses and kept batting in tougher conditions."

Malaysian protesters display umbrellas with words reading
APMalaysian protesters display umbrellas with words reading "Stop Lynas" during a protest against a rare earth refinery being built by Australian miner Lynas amid fears of radioactive pollution in Kuantan, eastern Malaysia on Sunday.
Some 3,000 Malaysians staged a protest on Sunday against a rare earth refinery being built by Australian miner Lynas over fears of radioactive contamination.
It marked the largest rally against the $230 million plant in eastern Malaysia, and could pose a headache to the government ahead of national elections widely expected this year.
Authorities recently granted Lynas a license to operate the first rare earths plant outside China in years. The plant in Pahang state has been the subject of heated protests over health and environmental risks posed by potential leaks of radioactive waste.
Lynas says its plant, which will refine radioactive ore from Australia, has state-of-the-art pollution controls and plans to start firing up by June.
