BLU new Studio 5.5 smartphone only costs $179 without a contract

BLU new Studio 5.5 smartphone only costs $179 without a contract
Smartphones are expensive. Everyone can’t afford the Galaxy Note or other big-screen smartphones that come with a ton of fixtures, especially without a contact. BLU is trying to get more phones out to the masses though. Their new Studio 5.5 smartphone only costs $179 without a contract.
The phone itself isn’t very impressive, but the non-contract price point is. The Studio 5.5 sports 854 x 480 resolution, 4GB of expandable storage, and a quad-core MediaTek chip. It may not sound like much, but for $179 off-contract that’s a steal.
If you’re buying a phone off-contract, you could do a lot worse. A year ago I probably would’ve asked why anyone buys a phone off contract, but it’s making more and more sense now to do so. Getting a phone off contact let’s you take it anywhere for cell service, meaning you’re not tied down to expensive AT&T or Verizon costs.

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would set you back $799.99

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would set you back $799.99
Samsung unveiled its flagship phablet, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, last month in Berlin. The phablet has landed on various carriers in the United States, but there was no news about the unlocked variant of the device for US market. If you are looking for an unbranded and unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with LTE support that is compatible with all major US carriers, you should check out GSM Nation.
The retailer seems to be the first one to bring the unlocked version of the phablet to US markets, which even supports the LTE bands of US carriers as well. The unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would set you back $799.99.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display boasting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The LTE version of the handset is powered by Snapdragon 800 SoC with a clock speed of 2.3GHz, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage with a microSD card slot, 13 megapixel back snapper and a 2MP front-facing camera. On the software side, it runs Android 4.3 Jelly bean out of the box.

MediaTek is expected to enter the supply chain of Samsung Electronics

MediaTek is expected to enter the supply chain of Samsung Electronics
A new report mentions that MediaTek is going to enter Samsung supply chain and provide the Korean giant with chips for their products. According to Commercial Times, MediaTek is expected to supply Samsung with its quad and 8-core processors in the second half of 2014.
Digitimes report,
MediaTek is expected to enter the supply chain of Samsung Electronics with its quad- and 8-core mobile processors in the second half of 2014, the Chinese-language Commercial Times cited CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets as saying in an October 2 report.
MediaTek is fairly popular in China and is used by many Chinese OEMs in their Android handsets including the popular Xiaomi, which is also known as the Apple of China. Many small handset manufacturers are also opting for MediaTek chipsets as its cheaper than the likes of Qualcomm.
It seems Samsung is planning to use MediaTek processors in its mid-range smartphones while the high-end handsets will still be powered by the Exynos 5 Octa chipsets or those made by the folks at Qualcomm.

Evernote updates more secure login to their Users

Evernote updates more secure login to their Users
A few months back, the folks at Evernote announced that they will introduce two-step verification for its users, after suffering from a security breach earlier this year. Now, the company announced that two-step verification is available for all Evernote users.
I’m a big fan of two-step verification and use it on any service that supports it. So, I’d recommend every Evernote users to enable it as soon as possible. To get started, head over to the security section in your Evernote settings and turn on two-step verification. When you turn it on, it will email you with a security code, which you must enter in the field provided.
After entering, you will be required to enter your phone number where the service sends you a confirmation code. After confirmation, install Google Authenticator on your handset and add the Evernote account. Premium Evernote users can also opt to get the security codes via text messages as well. After enabling, you’ll be given a set of backup codes, which can be used to access your Evernote account in case you lose your handset.
It is strongly recommended that you should enable two-step verification for all the services you use, whether its Gmail or Facebook or any other service.

Latest iOS 7 Bug that very easy to fix

Latest iOS 7 Bug that very easy to fix
The ease of access to Airplane Mode in iOS 7's new Control Center poses a possible security threat for iPhone owners, according to a study reported by CNet on Friday.
Quick access to Airplane Mode, even at the lockscreen, through the Control Center could give thieves or hackers extra time to compromise your device, say security researchers at German firm SR Labs, in a video posted to YouTube.
With Airplane Mode enabled, crucial programs needed to retrieve or remotely wipe a lost or stolen iPhone such as Find My iPhone are rendered useless. Without worry of the phone being located via GPS, thieves can take their time breaking into the phone, according to the researchers.
For iPhone 5S users the bug is extra grim, as SR Labs have also found that this extra time can give thieves a chance to spoof a user's fingerprint and gain full access to their phone. Once inside the phone, thieves can use the "forgotten password" part of the Apple ID login to have a new password made. Once that's been reset, whoever is in possession of the phone can access the owner's accounts.
Thankfully this is a bug that's very easy to fix. Just go into "Settings" on your iPhone, then "Control Center" and switch off "Access On Lock Screen."
News of the bugs comes after it was revealed in September that iOS 7 had a flaw that would allow anyone to access an iPhone through the alarm clock in the Control Center. Apple promptly released an update to fix the bug.

Google's Project Glass "How It Feels" (video)

Google's Project Glass 'How It Feels' (video)
Google's Project Glass recently got a new blast of publicity for its augmented reality specs with the video "How It Feels," which purportedly shows what it's like to be wearing Google Glass. The project also held an #ifIHadGlass competition, in which applicants were invited to submit what they would do if they were given Google Glass.
The competition's winners, yet to be announced, are eligible to receive some of the first copies of Glass, provided they're willing to cough up $1500.But projecting information on a transparent medium and putting it at eye level isn't new technology; it's been around for a while, and it's called a heads-up display.
And given that it's been around for a while, it's no surprise that Google isn't the only company making waves with heads-up technology. Other companies have projects ranging from Glass imitators, to spy gadgets for police, to specialized contact lenses.

Gadgets: 64 million wearable technology devices by 2017

Gadgets: 64 million wearable technology devices by 2017
Wearable technology, which includes camera-equipped smartwatches like the Galaxy Gear and Internet-connected eyewear like Google Glass, is set to explode over the next few years, according to a report released Friday.
The report, from Swedish telecom market researcher Berg Insight, says that by the end of 2017, companies will ship more than 64 million wearable technology devices. That includes smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Gear, smart glasses like Google Glass, and fitness and activity trackers like the FitBit, Jawbone UP and the Nike+ Fuelband.
While 64 million is no doubt a big number, it's not huge when it comes to consumer electronics. To put it in perspective: This year, 1 billion smartphones will be sold worldwide, according to Gartner, the technology market research firm.
