"Deccan Chargers, Miss Ishant's completely in IPL5"

Ankle surgery rules Ishant Sharma out of IPL

Ishant Sharma raises his hands after dismissing Kirk Edwards, India v West Indies, 2nd Test, Kolkata, 3rd day, November 16, 2011
Ishant Sharma could be out of action for at least six months

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the IPL after undergoing an ankle surgery earlier this month, which is likely to keep him out of action for at least six months. Deccan Chargers, Ishant's IPL franchise, confirmed the development, saying they would now be seeking permission from the IPL for a replacement player.
Ishant had been delaying the surgery for nearly a year, but finally decided to take the plunge after he returned from Australia in January, where he had played the Test-leg of the tour. Though he impressed in patches, Ishant remained inconsistent and only managed five wickets at an

"Portland's Electric Avenue Driving Electric Cars Into The Mainstream"

Reports confirm what experts had predicted: Electric car owners do most of their charging at home. Many of those same experts also agree that there will be a place for public charging stations, to inoculate against the much-feared “range anxiety,” or to provide EV owners the flexibility to take trips beyond the daily commute.

Earlier this month, I visited the campus of Portland State University (PSU), just south of downtown Portland, Oregon. I spent the morning with George Beard, Strategic Alliance Manager, PSU’s Office of Research & Strategic Partnerships. Beard and his on- and off-campus collaborators recently marked the six-month anniversary of one of the nation’s most important public electric car infrastructure projects. Below, I describe what PSU and its partners are up to; tomorrow, I’ll share 10 lessons learned thus far.

In August of 2011, PSU, with the City of Portland and Portland General Electric (PGE), launched a two-year research and demonstration collaboration called Electric Avenue. On one block of SW Montgomery Street, between SW Broadway and SW 6th Avenue, they transformed what had been a two-way

"Congress Queries Apple, iPhone App Developers About Privacy"

The House Energy and Commerce Committee sent letters today to 34 iPhone app developers — including Apple, Path, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Instagram — asking how their social apps collect user information. The letters can be found here.
It’s all part of an investigation into iPhone privacy that was initiated after Path, a social networking app, was caught by blogger Arun Thampi collecting address book data without permission. Henry Waxman (D-California) and G.K. Butterfield (D-North Carolina) Waxman

"Twitter Goes Google With Launch of Self-Serve Small Business Ads"

It took awhile, but Twitter today formally launched its self-service ad platform for small businesses. It’s the service’s answer to Google‘s AdWords, the automated ad system that catapulted the search engine into the most powerful company in online advertising. Here’s the video promo:

Few people expect Twitter’s business to match Google’s incomparable ad juggernaut, exactly. But it’s a huge step toward capturing the long tail of businesses that want to use Twitter to promote themselves via the two current ad formats, Promoted Tweets and

"About 70 percent of India is poor: Top adviser"

New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) Debunking the government's claim that the number of poor in India has come down, a top adviser has claimed that around 70 percent of the country's 1.2 billion population is poor, and stressed the need for a multi-dimensional assessment of poverty.
"The government claim that poverty has come down is not valid... there is a need for a multi-dimensional assessment of poverty as around 70 percent of the population is poor," National Advisory Council member N.C. Saxena told IANS in an interview.
According to Saxena, the various poverty estimates the government relies on to assess the impact of developmental schemes are faulty as they fail to factor in the lack of nutritional diet, sanitation, drinking water, healthcare and educational facilities available to the people.
The former bureaucrat, who now is part of the NAC that reports to Congress president Sonia
