ComputerSupport.com unveiled next generation cloud hosting platform ITAnyWhere Cloud

ComputerSupport.com unveiled next generation cloud hosting platform ITAnyWhere Cloud
ComputerSupport.com has unveiled its next generation cloud hosting platform ITAnyWhere Cloud. The product is based around the latest Microsoft and Citrix software, and runs completely in the AWS cloud, utilizing multi-region EC2, S3, RDS and other services. The new version of the cloud service offers small businesses the ability to host all of their productivity applications -- web or Windows-based -- in the cloud, and access them from any device, any time. The solution will help medical and financial organizations achieve instant compliance with HIPAA, FINRA and other US regulations. The goal with this version is to improve how quickly the applications are delivered, add the ability for users self-service, and enable better mobile access.

"ComputerSupport.com is providing highly differentiated hosted virtual desktop services" says Ken Oestreich, senior director of product marketing for Citrix. "By leveraging Citrix networking, application and mobility solutions, ITAnyWhere Cloud gives small and medium businesses flexible IT services that enable mobile work styles for their users". The continuing strong adoption of tablet devices is causing many software vendors to take a mobile-friendly approach to their new product launches. The latest release of Citrix XenApp is combined with XenDesktop, and allows for "mobilization" of any Windows application to make it touch-enabled and able to run better on mobile devices.

ITAnyWhere Cloud competes with other hosted cloud services like External IT. The differences between the two are the compliance features, and the ability for ITAnyWhere Cloud customers to get on-site support as a part of their plan, anywhere in the United States.

ESPN and Disney arriving on Roku platform

ESPN and Disney arriving on Roku platform
The set-top box market continues to heat up, with Roku, Apple TV and Google TV going head-to-head for your entertainment dollars. Despite the best efforts of cable and satellite providers, customers continue to look towards services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon for their television entertainment.
Now Roku, one of the big players in this growing ecosystem, stokes the fire a bit more today. The hardware maker announces the availability of both ESPN and Disney arriving on its platform.
"In time for the holidays, WatchESPN on Roku provides a one-stop destination for sports fans with live access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPN Deportes and ESPNEWS for customers who receive ESPN’s networks as part of their video subscription from an affiliated provider. ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater will also be accessible when those channels are in season", states Roku vice president Ed Lee.
Not stopping there, he goes on to tell us "Later in the month, customers who get their video subscription from an affiliated provider will also be able to access WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney Junior and WATCH Disney XD".
Of course, content deals always come at a price -- this is not yet a cord-cutter's dream. Customers will need to verify a subscription to an affiliated provider. Those currently include Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Verizon FiOS TV, Comcast's Xfinity TV, Midcontinent Communications, Cablevision's Optimum TV, Cox, AT&T U-verse TV, Charter and Google Fiber.
While this is great news for Roku owners, it's still a baby-step in terms of getting the content without the hefty monthly subscription coming along for the ride.

Android 4.4 KitKat rolling out latest version for Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 tablets

Android 4.4 KitKat rolling out latest version for Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 tablets
Up until now, if you wanted to try out Android 4.4 KitKat, there were only two options available -- buy a new Nexus 5 that has the OS preinstalled, or download a custom ROM and roll your own. Now there is a new option, at least if you have a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 as Google is rolling out the latest version of Android to its flagship tablets.
It is not just owners of the latest Nexus 7 who are in luck as the update is also being made available to the 2012 model. The fact that KitKat is rolling out to older hardware will please many people. Sadly, there has been no change of heart -- not yet, anyway -- for Galaxy Nexus owners hoping for an upgrade.
The launch was fairly low-key. A short tweet from the @Android account announced:
Starting today, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013) and Nexus 10 will be getting a tasty update to Android 4.4, KitKat.
The message was delivered to 3.6 million Twitter accounts, and that sound you can hear in the distance is thousands upon thousands of Android users groaning in frustration as they perform another check for updates only to discover that there are none currently available. Be patient, though! The update will arrive!
Have you managed to update your Nexus table yet? Impressed? Let us know what you think of KitKat below.

Vine is now available on Windows Phone 8, Get it now!

Vine is now available on Windows Phone 8, Get it now!
After a long wait Vine is now available on Windows Phone 8, officially bringing its popular six-second videos outside of Android and iOS. The app arrives in Store with a respectable feature set, including free and unlimited clip uploads and social network integration with Facebook and Twitter.
Vine takes advantage of built-in Windows Phone features, such as live tiles and camera lenses, as the app allows users to pin the Vine camera and their favorite accounts and channels on the homescreen and trigger the Vine recording mode from the built-in camera app (or third-party camera apps that support lenses, like Nokia Camera).
Like its Android and iOS counterparts, Vine lets users search for other folks who use the service, using the Windows Phone People Hub, Twitter following list and manually. Vine users can invite others to join via email and messages. Categories, editor's picks, featured hashtags and trending posts can be viewed in the app, as well as interactions (likes, new followers, etc).
So after reading the headline of this story you may be wondering what sort of features 6sec has up its sleeve that Vine cannot offer at the moment. Well, the feature that I appreciate the most in 6sec, that is not available in Vine, is the option to turn off automatic video playback in the stream. This makes the navigation less intrusive and, for me, more pleasant. Luckily, the sound can be muted in Vine, but it is still not ideal.
The camera in 6sec is also more pleasant to operate as the buttons come with a description underneath (set focus and show grid, for instance) and flash can be toggled on and off. By contrast, the corresponding Vine interface only has icons which, based on my experience, are not as well thought-out or as intuitive as the ones from 6sec.
There are other features in 6sec that Vine does not have, including support for multiple user accounts, options for protecting posts and marking them as sensitive and more themes.
Now that Vine is finally available on Windows Phone 8, users who have yet to get 6sec will likely choose the official client. However, right now it does not offer the best Vine experience.
Vine is available to download from Windows Phone Store.
