John Sculley is exploring a bid to takeover BlackBerry

John Sculley is exploring a bid to takeover BlackBerry

John Sculley, the former Apple CEO who oversaw Steve Jobs’ expulsion from the company, is exploring a bid to takeover BlackBerry, according to reports from The Globe and Mail.

The Canadian paper was informed of Sculley’s interest by unnamed sources, but Sculley himself refused to talk, noting only that he was “a long-time BlackBerry fan and user.”
“The only thing I would say is, I think there’s a lot of future value in Blackberry,” Sculley told the paper, “but without experienced people who have run this type of business, and without a strategic plan, it would be really challenging.

“Whoever buys it would have to have a strategic plan that was credible and could succeed, and they would want to have an experienced team that would be able to implement that plan.”

The Canadian phone-maker once dominated the mobile market but failed to anticipate the rise of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android operating system.

BlackBerry agreed to a $4.7 billion (£2.91bn) sale to the Fairfax Financial holding company in September this year, with Fairfax announcing its intent to take the company private. However, the company remains open to other offers until 4 Novemeber and many commentators believe that it still has a lot of value, including its portfolio of patents (valued at between $2bn and $3bn). The company is continuing to develop its handsets, recently rolling out the latest update to its BlackBerry 10 operating system, and celebrating 10 million downloads of its messaging application, BBM messenger, within 24 hours of release.

New OS X Mavericks by Apple

New OS X Mavericks by Apple
Apple's newest PC operating system, OS X Mavericks, is the best version of the OS yet. You definitely want to get it—and since it's a free upgrade, there's really no reason not to.

At this point, Apple has completely undergone to a yearly update cycle for OS X, so the differences between upgrades aren't as wide-ranging as they used to be. That said, there are still a bunch of under-the-hood tweaks and fixes in Mavericks, not to mention heaps of nifty enhancements that will make your daily computing experience even better.

For example, the battery power management features have been significantly improved, the Finder is much better, and the way incoming messages and notifications are handled is really smart.

If you haven't done so, go here and download Mavericks, then come back and get up to speed on everything you'll want to know about your new Operating System.

Invent Your Own HandHeld Game

Invent Your Own HandHeld Game
It's about as far from a Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita as you can get when it comes to the latest in handheld gaming consoles, but the Do It Yourself(DIY) Gamer Kit from Technology Will Save Us comes with one features those devices do not gives satisfaction that you built it yourself.

And not only do you have to assemble, wire, and solder the DIY Gamer Kit yourself, you  will also need to program your own games too. Sound like fun?

The $80 kit starts out as nothing but a pile of resistors, circuit boards, and a crude eight-by-eight pixel display.

So you probably won't be playing any advanced first person shooters once you get it all together. But, just 64 pixels at your disposal also means you don't need hundreds of programmers and a $100 million budget to get your first game out the door.

Apple Launched New HMV application

Apple Launched New HMV application
The UK retailer has stated that Apple has said that it will not re-authorise the application  until it removes the ability to download music. The application was approved by Apple only days earlier.

Speaking to the BBC, His Master's Voice (HMV)’s chairman Paul McGowan said that he was unable to understand why Apple had changed its mind.

According to HMV’s owner Hilco, Apple’s bone of contention is that HMV’s app allows users to download music. Apple does not allow any app to compete with iTunes when it comes to downloading music.

Apple confirmed to the BBC that the app had been suspended for violating App Store guidelines. It did not refer to the specific guideline HMV’s app had broken.

In a statement Hilco said: "HMV stressed that Apple’s removal of the app only prevents further iPhone users from downloading the app and those who have already downloaded the app will continue to be able to use the app as before and will not notice any changes to the experience.

“HMV’s developers are working around the clock to deliver an updated version of the ios app for Apple’s approval,” the company added.

The retailer also launched an Android version of the app.

LG G2 is more than just a smartphone

LG G2 is more than just a smartphone
Curved screens could be the next big thing in mobile. Samsung has announced its Galaxy Round, and we have observed the LG G Flex before. While it still has not been officially announced, the G Flex has shown up on a TV show in Argentina, giving us a closer look at that curved screen.

Argentinian broadcaster Telefe got the device in for a hands-on video. The Verge was also sent some hands-on photos.

You can see that, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Round, the G Flex curves up at each end, like a banana phone. It's designed to fit your face better. The Galaxy Round, meanwhile, curves up at the sides. Roll it towards you, and the screen will turn on, so you can see your notifications.
So what else do we learn about the G Flex? According to the TV show, the screen is 6 inches, and the device has buttons on the back, like LG's G2. Also on the back is said to be a 13-megapixel snapper.

The G Flex is set for release in South Korea coming month, according to the sources, though an LG spokesperson cast doubt on the whole matter. They said The Verge they were not sure if the device was authentic, and would have to contact the TV show and confirm it is "the real thing".

So how did the Surface Pro 2 score in iFixit’s repair test? it got a 1 out of 10, which means this is one of the hardest tablets on the market to repair. According to iFixit, the Surface Pro 2 leaves no room for mistakes, so if you thought about performing your own teardown on one of these, it may be better leaving it to the pros.
