"Simple equation for startled Sri Lanka"

Australia v Sri Lanka, Commonwealth Bank Series, Melbourne

Simple equation for startled Sri Lanka

 Match facts
March 2, Melbourne
Start time 1420 (0320 GMT)

A rare moment of celebration on a difficult day for Lasith Malinga , India v Sri Lanka, CB series, Hobart, February 28, 2012
Lasith Malinga has much to atone for in Melbourne

Big Picture
So much has changed in the course of an innings. Had India failed in their most unlikely pursuit of 321 inside 40 overs to earn a win and a bonus point in Hobart, Australia's final round robin match against Sri Lanka would have served primarily as a preparatory spar between the two sides ahead of Sunday's first final in Brisbane. However the extraordinary effort of Virat Kohli has added plenty of edge to the encounter at the MCG. Sri Lanka must now win or tie to make the finals, while Australia have a direct say in which team they face in the competition deciders.
The task of seeing off Sri Lanka may yet fall to Shane Watson as stand-in captain, as the selectors weigh up whether or not to play Michael Clarke in the final qualifying fixture. Clarke began the week by winning the Allan Border Medal as Australia's most outstanding cricketer of the past year, while Watson also

IBM takes giant step to faster, quantum computers

WASHINGTON: IBM researchers have taken a leap in computing by using quantum mechanics to harness the power of atoms and molecules, a move likely to lead to vast increases in speed and security of computers and other devices.

IBM researchers presenting the results at this week'sAmerican Physical Society meeting in Boston said that quantum computing "has the potential to deliver computational power that is unrivaled by any supercomputer today."

The new type of computing uses information encoded into quantum bits or qubits, putting into use a theory that scientists have been discussing for decades.
"The special properties of qubits will allow quantum computers to work on millions of computations at once, while desktop PCs can

"HNIs can add alternative assets like gold ETFs, commodities to jazz up investment portfolio"

HNI

Most Indians stick to traditional investment avenues like equities and bonds. At best, some of them would add some gold to their portfolios. However, an increasing number of wealth managers are now advising high net worth individuals (HNIs) to diversify their portfolios into alternative assets.

Direct real estate, gold ETFs, unlisted private equity, structured products and direct art are some of the alternative assets that are recommended to rich clients. Alternative assets account for 29,565 crore, or a mere 0.34% of individual wealth in India.

A report by Karvy Private Wealth says this will be the fastest growing segment in the coming years. "Alternative assets are meant for sophisticated HNIs who have more than 10 crore of investable surplus and a time horizon of at least five years. Depending on the risk-taking ability, investors could allocate 5-15% of their portfolio to such assets," says Rajesh Saluja, MD and CEO, ASK Wealth

"Online retailers Amazon, eBay making India a battleground for their contrasting business models"

Online retailers
MUMBAI: The world's largest online retailersAmazonand eBay, are steadily putting together the building blocks of their operations in India, potentially making this country a battleground for their contrasting business models.

While worldwide market leader Amazon, with 2011 sales of $48 billion, is building out an expansive logistics and supply chain that will support its operations once launched, eBay is signing on new merchants for its site, in line with its strategy of being a facilitator of transactions.

While it awaits a policy change that will allow foreign investment in multi-brand retail, Amazon has opened a front through price comparison site Junglee.com, which it acquired more than a decade ago. It has already secured permissions to set up large warehouses across the country for stocking thirdparty merchandise, as well as to start a logistics arm to ship products, more or less like its US model.

eBay, whose revenues last year were $11.6 billion, is aiming to score with its marketplace model, where it does not

"Why Google+ Doesn’t Care If You Never Come Back"

Google Leave Me Alone
Ad targeting. Google+ is designed to power ad targeting, and for that it only needs you to sign up once. This lets it combine the biographical information you initially enter such as age, gender, education, employers, and places you’ve lived with your activity on Search, Gmail, Maps and all its other products to create an accurate identity profile. And this powers targeting of more relevant ads it can charge more for.
So despite comScore showing that the average Google+ user only spends 3 minutes per month on Google+, VP Bradley Horowitz wasn’t lying when he told the Wall Street Journal ”We’re growing by every metric we care about”.
Maybe when it first launched, Google+ had aspirations of stealing away some of your content feed reading time from Facebook and Twitter. While it needs a lot of work, the design and features Google+ have launched are solid, and I have the utmost respect for a team doing the best it can. The problem is that it doesn’t solve a problem. Facebook owns the social graph and the
