"Will Intel’s Lava XOLO smartphone be a winner in India?"

The smartphone race in India is not coming to an end anytime soon. RIM, recently launched it’s ‘new afforable’ BlackBerry curve 9220 in the hope of boosting sales in one of the few

markets where it seems to be doing well. Now Lava International in collaboration with Intel have launched their first smartphone in India. These phones are run with Intel’s brand new Medfield Atom processors.

Tech2 reports that phone called, The Lava X900 will be part of the XOLO series and will be priced at Rs 22,000. While this sounds likes a high price, the X900 will compete with Motorola Atrix 2 and the HTC Sensation, according to Tech2.

If Intel’s Atom chip turns out to worth the effort then it could provide a good challenge to the ARM processor, which is used in nearly all major smartphones.

Other features of the phone include 4.03-inch display with a rather high resolution of 1024 x 600, an 8 megapixel camera and the phone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread but can be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

What remains to be seen is whether this will be just another phone in the line of Androids that seem to be flooding the market or will it actually stand out against competing phones from Samsung and HTC.
