"Spotify announces official iPad app"

Spotify has confirmed its new iPad app. 

Spotify, the internet music streaming service, has announced its official iPad app.


A Spotify iPhone app, which runs on the iPad, has been available for some time but the new iPad app offers dedicated graphics for the larger screen as well as a new navigation system.
The company gave early access to the app to Labrinth, a British singer-songwriter and music producer. He said: "As an artist I love the way my music is presented so slickly. Artwork is really important to me, and in Spotify's iPad app it's like it's popping off the screen."
As you would expect, the iPad version of the Spotify app is AirPlay compatible, so music can be streamed to wireless speakers or a television. It also has an improved search screen, which makes it easy to search for artists, users and playlists all from the same screen. Music that is currently playing can be controlled via a small player at the bottom of the app, regardless of which page of the app you are viewing.
Though the app is a free download, it requires a Spotify Premium subscription.
Last month, Spotify announced a 'Play Button' that website owners could add to their sites, embedding links to songs within the Spotify catalogue. Clicking on one of these links opens the Spotify app and starts the song.
The move is part of the company's plan to become 'the operating system for music' on all digital platforms. It follows a link-up with Facebook last year that allowed Spotify members to share their listening habits and playlists with friends on the social network.
Spotify has around 10 million active users and three million paying subscribers. Daniel Ek, Spotify's founder, was a new entry on the Sunday Times Rich List, announced last week, with an estimated fortune of £190 million.
