Pure's Highway 300Di digital radio will be available from May 12.

THIS week's gadgets include a GPS designed for bushwalking and a digital radio for your car dashboard.

ANGRY PROTECTOR

Gear4, $49

Angry Birds fans should appreciate Gear4's latest range of iPad cases that cover the new tablet with the stars of the standout app. The plastic covers snap on to the back of the new iPad, allowing use of a SmartCover to protect its screen. Red-and-black birds feature on the cases, as well as the ever-taunting Pig King.

DIGITAL DRIVE

Pure, $499

Digital radio has taken off, but adding it to cars has been tricky. Pure will soon offer the professionally installed Highway 300Di mounted on the dashboard, with a glass-mounted aerial for the best reception. The radio will let users pause live radio for up to eight minutes and connect to Apple gadgets. Available May 12.

BAG IT

Maxwell, $89

This minimalist backpack doesn't look like it packs in as much as it does. The Lowepro Traveler 150 features a large rear compartment users can adjust to fit a DSLR or compact system camera plus lenses and flash, and a section for a tablet computer, a zippered area for your accessories and memory card, and a front pocket.

BUSH TRACKER

Magellan, $149

As the weather cools, bushwalking becomes more comfortable and Magellan's latest GPS makes it easier. The eXplorist 110 handheld GPS is for use outdoors with a transflective screen for use in sunlight, waterproof casing, and extras including a "breadcrumbs" feature to help you backtrack, tidal, sun and moon calendar.

SAVING PRINTS

Kaiser Baas, $69.95

Kaiser Baas is focusing on the camera market, and its PhotoMaker plugs into the USB port of a PC or Mac and scans 35mm photo negatives or slides. They can be scanned to become 5-megapixel digital photos, in JPG or TIFF formats. Arcsoft Media Impression software is bundled with the device for editing.
