Wii U Console Will Be Region Locked Confirms Nintendo UK

Gamers thinking of possibly purchasing the new Wii U console later this year once its officially launched . Will be disappointed to learn that this week Nintendo UK has confirmed that Wii U consoles will be region locked, preventing owners from playing imported games.

The news of the Wii U being region locked was confirmed by Nintendo UK to the Eurogamer website. The region locking will prevent any imported games from America or Japan playing on the European version of the Wii U console.

Nintendo’s confirmation followed a translated revelation in Japanese magazine Famitsu:“What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played. Its an unfortunate blow to potential Wii U owners, but was expected.
