Apple’s iPhone 5 became available to pre-order last Friday, and the availability of the handset changed from the 21st of September to 2 to 3 weeks in just over an hour.

Now Apple has announced just how many pre-orders of the iPhone 5 they sold in the first 24 hours, a new record for the company with more than 2 million iPhone 5′s pre-orders in the first 24 hours.


“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”

This is more than double that or the pre-orders for the iPhone 4S, and these figures are just for the first 24 hours, we wonder just how many iPhone 5s Apple will have sold by the time it goes on sale this Friday.
