"Greenpeace activists protest outside Apple’s HQ"

Apple, which has been under fire from Greenpeace, faced a full-fledged protest today when the members of the environmental organisation turned up outside its corporate

headquarters at Cupertino, California, and began projecting images onto the main building.

According to AppleInsider,

In addition to projecting messages of support from Twitter and Facebook users onto the side of the building,

Greenpeace activists also barricaded themselves inside an eight-foot-tall, ten-foot-wide “survival device” that has previously been used to prevent Arctic drilling.

The demonstration also featured four Greenpeace members dressed as iPhones, with fully functional screens across their torsos that displayed messages from supporters via Facebook and Twitter.  

Greenpeace is campaigning about how energy “clean” tech companies are and it has accused Apple of being the least clean, behind Facebook and Google. According to report, published in April titled “How Clean is Your Cloud?”, the environment group had slammed Apple by highlighting that the tech giant was using nearly 55 percent energy that came from electricity plants that used coal as fuel. The power was used to run the data centres that host the iCloud.

As far as energy grades were concerned Apple was handed out a ‘D’ by Greenpeace.

Subsequently the organisation has started a “Clean Cloud” campaign where it wants Apple to reduce use of coal and nuclear based energy for running its data centres which host the iCloud.  Last month, Greenpeace activists staged protests at Apple’s Irish headquarters in Cork.

Apple has however rejected Greenpeace’s claims.  Two of the protestors were also arrested from the site.
