10-year old boy in the U.S. spends $800 on Minecraft

We really need some kind of extra verification when it comes to spending money on in app purchases and games. It would save people a lot of heartache. We’ve all heard the stories about kids ordering thousands of dollars worth of game stuff leaving their parents footing the bill. The latest case involves a 10-year old boy in the U.S. who faces a felony charge after spending $800 on Minecraft.

How you spend that kind of money on Minecraft is anyone’s guess and yes a felony charge for a ten year old. You read that right. Seems harsh? That’s the sad state of our world. It looks like the boy used his grandmother’s card without her knowledge and when she noticed, she phoned the bank to report the suspicious activity.

I’m not sure if she knew it was her grandson at that point, but the bank told her to file a police report, then they would cancel the charges. So she did. And that’s how the kid ended up facing felony charges. The case has been referred to prosecutors with the child under suspicion of felony theft.

Guilty of stupidity? Sure. But felony? Why can’t the grandmother and the Minecraft people work it out at this point? Why do we all have to act stupid and make things complicated? I say ban the kid from the game forever for using the card and just give her the money back.
