Petrol, diesel prices hiked again

petrol-pump.jpg (375×250)Petrol and diesel costs were increased again,a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that India would not turn around financial restructures, the government on Saturday allowed oil companies to hike gasoline price by Rs. 2.35 per litre and diesel by 50 paise per litre.
Saturday’s hikes came in the middle of a falling rupee, and rush in international oil charges initiated by deepening of the Syrian urgent situation.

 Petrol:Though a part of Congress authority was averse to the hike in outlook of five state elections this year and the next Lok Sabha elections, the government went ahead with the lift after petroleum minister Veerapa Moily informed the PM about record losses due to increasing international oil rates.

Moily, in his August 30 letter to the PM and finance minister P Chidambaram, made it clear that direct steps need to be taken to undertake a record Rs. 180,000 crore in losses originating from the dipping rupee and ballooning oil rates.
