Astrid Task Management Application Shutting Down on 5th August

AstridWe all have a pretty good idea that when a service is acquired by a giant corporation, the chances are that it will close down one day or another. Few months back, Posterous was acquired by Twitter and was later shutdown. Another example is Wavii that was acquired by Google and was later taken down. The same fate was expected for Astrid when it was acquired by Yahoo in May. It really happened; the company announced that the popular task management application, Astrid will shut down on August 5, 2013.

Here is the official word from the folks at Astrid.
First off, we want to sincerely thank you for being an Astrid user over the years. Your support every step of the way has meant the world to us. As of August 5, 2013, we will be closing the Astrid service.
We know that a transition can be tough, but we want to make it as easy as possible for you. Please go to this link: astrid.com/home/export to download your data.
Once you have your data, we recommend you check out one of these applications. They will allow you to easily import your data, so you can pick up where you left off: Wrike, Wunderlist, Sandglaz, and Any.do.
When we built Astrid, we sought to help as many people as possible become happier, healthier and more productive – and we certainly hope we helped you. Thank you again for your support.

The news might come as a shock to all those users who use Astrid and were concerned about its future after the acquisition. Astrid users have almost one month to make a backup of their data and switch to other alternatives such as Wunderlist, Any.do and Wrike. Do let us know about your thoughts in the comments below.
