Microsoft stops offering Xbox Live Gold Family Packs


xboxliveHaving an Xbox 360 is great for the whole family. But that means an Xbox Live account for each person instead of trying to share one, which means paying for multiple Gold accounts every year. In 2010 Microsoft introduced the Xbox Live Gold Family Pack.

With the family pack, $100 gets you four Gold accounts that can be shared on a single console or split across multiple machines. That’s a nice savings over the $40 per Gold account annual subscription. Plus, you can monitor activity, restrict access for kids, and allocate Microsoft Points to each account. Pretty sweet.
Sadly, the option of a Family Pack has now disappeared. It looks like Microsoft has decided to stop offering it overnight, without warning. Anyone trying to sign up for a new account or renew a Family Pack, is being denied the option. There’s no explanation so far. We wonder if it has something to do with their new console.
