Average iOS App Size Has Increase By 16 Percent In Six Months

The average size of Apple’s iOS apps has apparently increased significantly over the last six months, according to a recent report by ABI research the average size of each iOS app has increased by around 16 percent from March to September of this year.

Games seem to be the apps which have increased in size the most, with the average size of games increasing by around 42 percent from March to September of 2012.
The flipside of the increasing file-sizes is that the internal storage of smartphones and tablets is becoming a scarcer resource, as the device capabilities struggle to keep up with the requirements of apps and mobile content. Markkanen predicts, “Especially the consumers with 16GB devices are likely to become more conscious about what apps to keep and what to uninstall, so the developers’ bar to impress will be getting even higher than it is now. This could also speed up the adoption of the mobile cloud as a storage remedy quite significantly.”
The increase in app size is apparently down to a number of factors, one is the new retina display on Apple’s new iPad and the other is because Apple increased the over the air download limit for a single app in March from 20MB to 50MB.
