App.net Twitter Rival Hits $500,000 target | Techdigg.info
What do you think of a Twitter competitor that you have to pay for? It sounds dumb, but think of it as a promise for those who hate ads. App.net has hit its $500,000 fundraising target. What is App.net? Well, Dalton Caldwell, the guy behind App.net, figured out that regular folks like you and I would be willing to pay for an ad-free real-time social networking service. A place where “users and developers come first, not advertisers”.

At first it does sound dumb, but think about it. Ads suck. About 7,448 people are willing to pay $50 for the minimum fee required to post to the service, while another 2,010 payed $100 to be developers with access to back-end functionality, and another 59 payed over $1,000 for “pro tier” access which includes phone support and a personal meeting with Caldwell.
We will have to see how this goes, but Twitter may soon be in trouble. Only time will tell.

There is always someone bigger than you. Twitter should understand this as well and try to build a strong networking site with some more additional features so that membership flow in and the already registered members should retain their membership.
