"O2 Tu Me app offers free calls and texts for all iPhone users"

A new app, called Tu Me, will offer free calls, texts and sharing for all O2 iPhone customers, parent company Telefonica has announced.

The Tu Me app will use a customer’s data plan instead of the usual minutes and text messages allowance, and will be free to use at launch.
O2 said that “the service will continue to be developed with added value functionality”, and that it would be launched for Android users and other platforms in the future. It will allow O2 customers to make free calls internationally if they use wifi, and will automatically search existing contacts for other Tu Me users.
Tu Me is the first service from Telefónica Digital to launch directly to consumers worldwide. It will store all interactions in a timeline format, and will be web-based so that users can access it from anywhere with a web connection.
O2 claimed Tu Me is “the only app that lets you make calls, send voice messages, instant messages, photos and location from one control within one screen, with no need to switch apps or tabs.”
Stephen Shurrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Digital, claimed “Tu Me puts all your communications needs into one place, for free, and is a great way for people to stay in touch with those close to them.”
Communications apps, such as the hugely popular WhatsApp, have been growing in popularity since it became simple to integrate text messages and instant messages. Apple’s latest version of iOS also integrates iMessages, which use data, with text messages.
