"Bloggers lose in US HuffPo payment suit"



A US federal judge in New York says that the Huffington Post and its parent company, AOL, don't have to pay bloggers who provide content for the website.


US District Judge John Koeltl dismissed a lawsuit that bloggers filed last year, saying they were unjustly denied compensation for their work.

The bloggers were seeking class-action status for the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was prompted by AOL Inc's $US315 million ($304.16 million) purchase of the Huffington Post last year.

The bloggers claimed that the website unjustly profited from their work, promising only exposure.

In dismissing the suit, the judge said the bloggers knew from the start that they wouldn't be paid and could have taken their work elsewhere.
