Sony unveils its first tablets S1 and S2!

Sony Corp. a laggard in the booming tablet market unveiled two tablet computers, the S1 and S2, in an ambitious attempt to grab second place in the market created and still dominated by Apple's iPad.


  • Sony says it plans to sell the two tablets in autumn 2011. Pricing details weren't revealed.
  • Both S1 and S2 are PlayStation Certified, support DLNA, and are WiFi and 3G/4G "compatible"
  • S2 has touch-screen buttons that that try to replicate the traditional game controller experience.
  • Second tablet is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and camera.
  • S1 will have cross-device connectivity -- it can serve as a remote control for a wide range of Sony products, including TV speakers.
  • S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized "Quick and Smooth" touch panel UI with "Swift" web browser.
  • S1 is a 9.4 media tablet with a front and rear camera
  • S1 is single screen device with a curve at the top, much like a folded magazine.
